Southern Plains Consulting
We provide our services and products to keep you and your family safe and better prepared to handle a variety of disasters. We believe that a small amount of work towards emergency preparedness now will pay massive dividends should disaster strike. We encounter people everyday who only think of disaster as a terrorist event or a tornado. A more encompassing definition of this would include being laid off from work, encountering sudden financial bills such as a trip to the emergency room, social and economic decline, home foreclosure, and many more. What scenarios can you think of that would severely set you and your family back either emotionally, physically or financially? These can all be considered disasters, therefore we can help tailor a custom preparedness plan that is applicable to your specific situation and environment.
Everyday events can lead to disaster if you are not prepared for them!
Our Consultants can help your family with a variety of things, including:
- Preparing on a Budget
- How to Inventory, Manage and Rotate Items
- Understanding Preparedness as a Philosophy
- Growing, Canning and Dehydrating your own Foods
- Security Assessments, including Personal, Commercial and Residential
- Protecting your Finances and Assets
- Firearms Training by Certified Instructors
- Alternative Energy Systems and Better Energy Efficiency
- Vehicle Maintenance and Improvement

Mark Smith – Senior Consultant
Mark Smith served in the United States Marine Corps and Army Reserve learning hydraulic mechanics, aviation maintenance, heavy equipment, and even riot control. His education and training has given him the unique skill sets to effectively manage disasters, including wildland firefighting, hazardous material response, aviation incidents, earthquake safety evaluations, and crisis management. Mark is a Certified Environmental Compliance Manager, Certified Personal Protection Specialist, AED and CPR Instructor for the American Red Cross, and an Emergency Medical Technician.
After leaving the Armed Forces, he went on to take the titles of Fire Chief, Smyth County (VA) Disaster Coordinator, Safety & Security Director, and Emergency Manager. Mark currently resides in western Oklahoma and travels the Tri-State area giving seminars, lectures, and offering one on one consultations on a variety of preparedness matters.
Kevin Hayden – Special Instructor and Guest Lecturer
Kevin Hayden is a former New Orleans Police Officer who endured Hurricane Katrina, Rita and several others. While his specialties lie within the firearms and training arenas, his first hand natural disaster experiences and knowledge offer a rare insight into a civilization that completely broke down in a matter of hours. From dealing with roaming bands of looters to locating safe sources of food, water, and antibiotics in a city being consumed with disease, toxic water and even fire, many of those who endured Hurricane Katrina were left with a unique appreciation for the awe-inspiring power of nature and just how tough life can be when society collapses.
Kevin offers personal training with a variety of firearms, but self-defense and dynamic pistol shooting are his forte. Kevin holds several law enforcement awards and multiple certifications in firearms, along with also being an Emergency Medical Technician. Over the course of his time with the police department, Kevin was given the opportunity to attend hundreds of hours worth of training – from Emergency Management to Disaster Response, Incident Command, dozens of active shooter schools, and a variety of FEMA courses. Kevin is a Glock Armorer and offers several instructor level courses, including Responding to Active Shooters and Basic/Advanced Pistol.
Other Guest Lecturers and Consultants
Many times we rely upon guest consultants for our seminars and presentations. We refuse to hand out information that is not 100% accurate, tried, and tested. Therefore, we have a team of people that we consult with on some areas such as farming, livestock, and alternative energy. We seek out the experts in each of their respective fields and work closely with them, developing a presentation that offers the highest quality information. Many times, we use Guest Consultants in the field, as well, especially for medium-large farming operations.
